John Henry Gainor, 73, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg, MD.  Born September 12, 1943 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Summers Henry Gainor, Jr. who was killed in action in France during World War II, and the late Cora Smith Nuetzel.  He was the husband of Lynda Anne Swanson Gainor, to whom he was married for 49 years.

John, best known as Dad, Granddad, St. John,…and Honey, was the owner/operator of Kitchens by John Gainor for 42 years.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Holly Ann Potter of Westminster, and Crystal Lyn Perry and husband David of Taneytown; sisters, Mary Davis and husband Duane of Aurora, CO, and Barbara Reitz of Bel Air, MD; sisters-in-law, Susie Vaughn of MD, Nancy Allen and husband Tom of MD, and Patti Morris and husband Mike of NC; grandchildren, Justin Etzler, his wife Sara, and their son Owen, Elaina and Nathan Perry, and Drew and Alex Potter; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by son-in-law, Andy Potter.  The family is sincerely grateful for the loving care and kindness shown by the staff at St. Catherine’s.
