Passed away at his home on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the age of 71. John was born in Boston, MA on September 16, 1944, the son of the late John Henry Day Sr. and Mary (Ferguson) Day.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Northeastern University in 1967, where he was an ROTC cadet. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later attended Penn State University, where he received his Master’s Degree in Journalism in 1970. John was a public relations specialist and journalist in Boston and Atlanta before moving to Kalamazoo in 2004 to be closer to his grandchildren. John wrote articles for many publications in his career and authored a book for SAE International on automotive electrical and electronic reliability. On December 23, 2011, he was united in marriage to his loving wife Mary Jo (Ferris) Day, who survives.

He is also survived by daughters, Jennifer (Gregg) Taylor of Kalamazoo, and Cheryl Day of Decatur, GA; step-daughters, Sara Whiteley of Washington, D.C., and Christine Whiteley of Chicago, IL; and grandchildren, Noah, Dmitry, and Elena Taylor of Kalamazoo.
