MSgt. John Harmon Dates, Jr.
1931 – 2009
John Dates, Jr., loving husband and father, entered into eternal life on June 13, 2009. He was born in Syracuse, NY, on April 21, 1931. John served his country as a member of the U. S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve as a psychiatric technician for a combined total of 37 years and retired in 1992.
John loved life itself and made the most out of his years. He was passionate about roller skating for many years, during which he accumulated many trophies and medals. Friends will remember him as one of the most graceful roller skaters to ever step onto the floor. John continued to roller skate all the way into the new millennium until his health declined.
John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 54 years Nancy, son John III and wife Angie, son Michael, and son Brian and wife Vicki, sisters Geraldine Holroyd and Val Bill, all of Fort Walton Beach, three sisters-in-law; Joan Dobson of Ohio, Jean LaFleur of Oklahoma and Carol Doranski of Illinois. John also leaves behind his 10 loving grandchildren; John IV, Kyle, Korey, Leigha, Dwight, Eric, Kelsey, Jessica, Kaytlin and Brandy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
