John Harley Crawley, 83, Markleville, passed away December 7, 2008 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after an extended illness.

He was born March 5, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky, and resided in Markleville. He grew up in Mitchell, Indiana where he graduated from High School. John served his country in the US Navy as a cook and mechanic during WWII in Hawaii. He was honorably discharged with commendations.

He retired from Standard Oil in January of 1981. He loved feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. He is survived by his wife whom he married in June of 2001, Maxine Blevins Hunter Crawley; daughter, Susie & husband Mike Waymire of Camden; daughter-in-law, Alicia Crawley of Livonia, Michigan; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; stepson, Lonny & wife Karen Hunter; step-daughter, Mary & husband Jerry Avalos; step-grandchildren, Niki & husband Jim Estes, Viki & husband Kyle Hall, Megan & husband Wes Douglas, Danny Avalos, Vinnie Avalos, Matt & wife Joanna Hoover, Josh Hoover, and Chris Hunter; step-great-grandchildren, J.P. Estes, Jackson Estes, Joe Estes, Lilly Douglas, Wyatt Douglas, Carson Douglas, Abby Douglas, Elaina Hoover, Kendall Hoover and Ty Hall.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife whom he married in 1945, Inez Elizabeth “Liz” Stout Crawley in April of 1999; sons, Terry Thomas Crawley & Norman Neil Crawley; sister, Evelyn Ruth Sarandrea and parents, John T. & Blanche Pridemore Crawley.
