John H. Stoffel, 77, Huntington, IN, passed away at 3:04 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, Fort Wayne, IN. Mr. Stoffel was born March 13, 1933 to Albert and Esther Scher Stoffel in Huntington, Indiana. His parents preceded him in death. John graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1951.
Mr. Stoffel was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and Life member of VFW Post 2689 in Huntington. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Erie Lackawana Railroad for 23 years. John was co-founder of M&S Sheet Metal, and was founder of Huntington Sheet Metal. He also served Huntington City and County governments in several elected and appointed offices.
Survivors include his companion of 11 years, Dolores Burnworth, Huntington, two sons: Terry J. (Vicki) Stoffel, Huntington and John A. (Michele) Stoffel, Huntington; two daughters: Kris Jane Wiley, Huntington and Cindy Betts, Roanoke; two brothers; Kenneth (Rosemary) Stoffel, Huntington and Wallace (Janet) Stoffel, Huntington; two sisters; Angeline Shinebearger, Hornell, NY and Gloria (Alfred) Gordon, Bluffton; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Stoffel, two sisters; Jane Stoffel and Madonna Hochstetler.
