John Rudnicky, 65, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at Park Strathmoore Nursing Home in Rockford, IL surrounded by his family.

John was born March 10, 1947 in Ottawa to James and Gladys Jean (Brandner) Rudnicky. He was a member of the Ottawa Township High School class of 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969 (during the Vietnam War) with the 78th Artillery in Bamberg, Germany where he was an Executive Chef and later a MP. He married Janet L. Pandolfi on December 1, 1977 in Ottawa. He was a member of St. Mary Church and Knights of Columbus.

John began his career in law enforcement in Green River, Wyoming. When he moved back to Illinois he worked for Marseilles Police Department then later the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department until he was disabled on the job. John loved woodworking, cooking, cards, camping and fishing. He loved his kids and grandkids unconditionally and they were the light of his life. He is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Amy (Marc) Konwinski of Ottawa and Becky Rudnicky of Naplate; one son, Josh Rudnicky of Naplate; seven grandchildren, Brea and Kaden Konwinski, Kayla, Skylar, Ryan and Austen Rudnicky and Madelyn VanHorn; one sister, Mary Jane Fuller of Naplate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nancy Brewer and two brothers, Joey Leo and James “Butch” Rudnicky. In John’s memory, the family asks that those capable please make a blood donation to a Red Cross Blood Bank to help those in need. Pallbearers will be Josh Rudnicky, Flip Pandolfi, Steve Lehr, Dan Kain, Marc Konwinski, Larry Todd and John Fuller
