John H. Garber, 63, of Elkhart, passed away after an extended illness, peacefully at home on Thursday, April 19, 2012, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 13, 1948, in Warsaw to Carl A. and Virginia M. (Hoxie) Garber. On Jan. 9, 1982, he married Jan L. (Crowe) Garber in Mishawaka.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Lynn (Charlie) Bordelon of Morrisville, N.C., and Teresa (Jeff) Pride of Chattanooga, Tenn.; son John (Dena) Garber of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three sisters, Bette (Tom) Geairn of Elkhart, Jennie Garber of Rome City and Barb (Bob) Hartsough of Wolcottville; mother Virginia (Garber) Field of Ligonier; seven grandchildren, Caleb, C.J., Morgan, Kyle, Mathew, Jordan and Sarah; and mother- and father-in-law, John and Joanna Crowe of Westminster, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his father.

John was employed for more than 30 years with Diltz and Sons as an electronics technician. He enjoyed spending time golfing, camping, metal detecting, reading and scuba diving. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears fan. He was known to many as the guy who could fix anything.
