John H. ‘Jack’ Bestle, 76
Troy – John H. ‘Jack’ Bestle, 76, of Pawling Avenue, Troy died after a brief illness Tuesday, April 13, 2010 surrounded by his loving family, at St. Mary’s Hospital Troy.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Harold Bestle and Alicia Leonard Bestle and beloved husband of 50 years of Jean ‘Sheena’ McLeod Bestle. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
Jack worked in buildings and grounds at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for 18 years retiring 12 years ago and prior to that at the Troy School District. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Sarasota from 1951-55.
He was a member of the CRAB Club, Emerald Athletic Club, Veteran’s of Lansingburgh and the American Legion Wynantskill. He was an avid golfer and reader, loved following the Boston Red Sox and Washington Redskins, worked as an Off Ice Official at RPI hockey games, and volunteered for many years in the Troy Youth Hockey Association. He loved his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, John S. ‘Jak’ (Sharon) Bestle of Brunswick; two daughters, Cheryl (Joseph) Germinerio of Wynantskill and Jude Bestle of Troy; a sister, Arlene Bestle of Brunswick; his grandchildren Victoria and Paige Bestle, Alina, Joseph, John, Maurice and Shea Germinerio, Mia Losee, brother-in-law David (Marge) McLeod, nieces Dana (Ed) Small and Dawn (Jerry) Caiazza and step-grandchildren Daniel, David and Darlene Marshall; a great grandson, Noah Marshall and many cousins and friends.
