John Gura 97, of the Holiday City Berkeley section of Berkeley Township, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Born in Gaboltova, Czechoslovakia John came to America when he was 17. He was a decorated Veteran of the US Army serving during World War II, receiving 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After the War, he lived in Roselle Park before moving to Holiday City in 1984.

John began his career as a Blacksmith and rose to a Bridge and Building Mechanic with Conrail in Elizabeth, NJ. He was a parishioner of St Maximilian Kolbe RC Church and a member of the DAV Chapter 24 and VFW Post 6063 in Toms River.

Predeceased by his loving wife Sophia (Lakata).

Surviving is his son John Gura Jr. and his wife Geri of Roselle Park, NJ and his daughter Mary Ann Oleyar and her companion David of Mt. Pocono, Pa.; three grandchildren Amanda, Maria and John and three great-grandchildren Marcus, Lana and Dylan.
