John Gregory Young, Sr.
Johnny was born June 11, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to loving parents, Cecil Young, Sr. and Johnetta Young. Johnny was the 11th of 13 children. He attended Indianapolis Public School #32 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1969. Johnny continued his education and completed his apprenticeship program becoming a Journeyman Electrician in 1981. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 481, until he retired from the Indiana Convention Center in 2014. He later worked at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store part time during his retirement.
Johnny was united in holy matrimony in 1980 to Iris M. Duncan. This union produced two beautiful children: son, John Gregory Young, Jr. and daughter DeJeri Makyla Young.
Johnny departed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at the age of 67. His precious memories will long be cherished by his surviving children: John G. Young, Jr. (Andria) and DeJeri M. Young; grandchildren, Johnathan A. Young, Jalen A. Young, and Aimee M. Underwood; brother, Samuel Young; sisters, Loretta Crawford, Earline Evans, Rochelle Smith, Marilyn Jackson, Sandra Young, and Terri Randolph.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Young, Sr. and mother, Johnetta Young. Sisters: Barbara Young, Joan Young. Brothers: Cecil Young, Robert Young, and DeWayne Young.
Johnny was an avid sports fan and truly enjoyed attending and commentating on his grandchildren’s games. He was a true leader and patriarch of the Young family.
