John (Giovanni) Lombardi

Troy – John (Giovanni) Lombardi, 86, of Pawling Avenue, Troy, entered into eternal rest in hospice at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family on October 6th 2018.

Born and raised in Roccasicura Italy, he was the son of the late Michael Lombardi and Giovanna DiBenedetto Lombardi, and his step-mother, Angelina Saccomano Lombardi. He was also a loving Husband for 60 years to Lidia M. Rossi Lombardi. Mr. Lombardi immigrated to the United States with his wife and two daughters, settling in Troy over 50 years ago.

Mr. Lombardi was a baker for Bella-Napoli Italian Bakery in North Troy for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He loved to spend time with his wife and family. He was a talented wood worker, gardener, and loved to play bocce, make prosciutto, wine, cheese, and other Italian delicacies.  He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Troy and a member of the Italian Community Center in Troy.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Lena (Michael) LoPorto, Troy, and Anna (Charles) Hunt, Wynantskill; three grandchildren, Francesca (Zachary) Brandow, Troy, Lidia LoPorto, Troy, and Steven Hunt, Troy; a great grandson, Giovanni Brandow; a brother, Mario (Anna) Lombardi, Troy; a beloved sister-in-law, Regina Lombardi, Troy; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Francesca (Peppino) Santone, Italy, Elio (Adelia) Rossi, Italy, beloved sister-in-law, Carmela Rossi, Italy, Concetta (Marino) Padula, Italy, and beloved brother-in-law, John DiGiacomo, Italy; a special niece, Giovanna Gavin, Troy; a special nephew, Michael Lombardi, Troy; and several more nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Assunda (Michael) Melaragno, Ohio, Michelina Lombardi, Troy; a brother, Anthony (Tony) Lombardi, Troy; a sister-in-law, Angelina DiGiacomo, Italy; a brother-in-law, Cosmo Rossi, Italy.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Community Hospice at Samaritan Hospital, especially Kate, Sarah and Linda  for their loving care of John, and a special thank you to aides, Penny and Brie.
