Mac was born on November 12, 1934 in Richmond, VA to Helen (Gallagher) and Lawrence McElligott and spent most of his childhood in Willoughby Spit in Norfolk, VA. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1957 where he met his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Jean (Mickey) McFarland.
Mickey and Mac retired to St. Augustine, FL, where Mac volunteered his time at the World Golf Village and was a docent for the St. Augustine Historical Society.
Mac loved being on the water and especially enjoyed the family lake house in Stratford Harbour, VA. Blessed with a beautiful voice, Mac enjoyed singing and music throughout his life, but it was his infectious laugh that was his family’s favorite sound. Mac was a loyal follower of football, NASCAR and golf, a fan of history and classic cars, and devoted to his church.
Mac is survived by his wife Mickey; daughters Terri Bogert (Michael) of Oakton VA, Susan McElligott (Drew McKay) of Lewes DE, and Julie McElligott (Steve Hauser) of Raleigh NC; and his five grandchildren, Kate and Jack Bogert, Nick and John McKay, and Genny Hauser.
