John “Johnny” Gale Wilson passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at the age of 64 in his home in Elizabeth, Colorado. When he passed, he was with his favorite person in the entire world — his wife of 47 years, Virginia Wilson.
John was born in Denver, Colorado, on June 25, 1957, to Pauline Chavez and Ted Wilson. He had five siblings and was born in the middle: Steve, Dawn, Larry, Ted, and Ed.
He fell in love with Virginia Ann Quintia at a young age, and they welcomed their daughter, Angela Lynn, to the world on January 23, 1975. He married Virginia on September 3, 1987 at the Heritage Square Chapel in Golden, Colorado. John was one of the hardest working men and spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver, warehouse supervisor at Acme, and highway foreman for the Colorado Department of Transportation before his retirement.
John was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back if needed. Over the years, John and Virginia adopted many animals in need, helped support and take care of family members, and gave as much to those around them. His giving heart was truly unrivaled. On March 21, 2018, John and Virginia adopted the light of their lives, Virginia’s great-nephew, JJ. Although the adoption wasn’t official until 2018, they loved and raised him when he was a baby and couldn’t wait to call him their son officially. JJ and John were partners in crime, constantly stirring up trouble, just as dads and their boys do.
Those who knew John know he was a cowboy. He loved fishing, camping, and breathing in the fresh mountain air. He taught his daughter and granddaughters how to fish and loved camping. He enjoyed watching old western movies, going to the National Western Stock Show, and playing video games with JJ. When his oldest granddaughter graduated from high school, John and Virginia traveled to Oahu with their family to celebrate, and he loved it there.
