John Gerrit Beekhuizen was born to Arnold and Bertha Janssen Beekhuizen on July 19, 1924, near Tracy, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm and lived there his entire life. He graduated from Tracy High School.
John and Sara farmed the family farm for fifty years.
He loved to fish, play pool, work in his garden, puzzles, and most of all enjoyed “keeping busy.” He was known by his family as being strict but fair and always made time for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife of sixty years, Sara: his children: Janice (Lee) Allen of Tucson, Arizona, Laura Jean (Dennis) Van Dusseldorp, of Pella, Sandy (Marvin) Ozinga of Oskaloosa, Vicky (Phil) Slings of Pella, Cathy (Larry) Rozenboom of Tracy, Bernie (Lois) Beekhuizen of Leighton, Karen (Tim) Altenhofen of Newton, Jonathan (Staci) Beekhuizen of Hamilton, Illinois; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Marie (Harold) Van Maanen of Pella and Grace (Eldert “Buck”) Groenendyk of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers: Bert Beekhuizen and Arnold Beekhuizen; sisters: Alice Beekhuizen and Jo Kelderman; and his daughter-in-law, Lynda Beekhuizen.
