John Francis Locascio, 69, of Freeport, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center.Born January 16, 1945 in Chicago, he was the son of Frank and Elsie (Ivison) Locascio. He attended Lane Tech High School and graduated from North Park College.

He obtained his Master’s Degree in Library Science from Dominican University (formerly Rosary College). On September 21, 1968 he married Linda Ganz. He served as Assistant Head Librarian at Glenview Public Library before coming to Freeport where he was Head of Freeport Public Library for 27 years.

John was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry as Senior Warden and board member, taught Sunday school, and led the youth group. John was an active member and past president of Freeport Noon Kiwanis. He served on the board of the Stephenson County Historical Society. He was also a member of the American Library Association. John enjoyed music, television, movies, fast cars and reading. He was a kind and patient man.

He will be remembered for his laid back sense of humor.Surviving are his wife, of Freeport; twin daughters, Anne (Bill Schmidt) Locascio of Elgin and Jennifer (Edward Hoke) Locascio of Evanston; his son, Colin Locascio of Evanston; one grandchild, Giselle Annalise Hoke of Evanston; his step-granddaughters, Melodie Hoke of Chicago and Natalie Hoke of Evanston. He was preceded in death by his parents.
