John F. Santagata
– age: 82

(July 24, 1929 to December 03, 2011 )

Resident of Torrington, Connecticut

On December 2, 2011 our beloved father and grandfather, John Francis Santagata, 82, joined his beloved wife, Sonia, in heaven, where they will eternally dance arm in arm with God and his angels.

John was born in Stamford, CT on July 24, 1929 to Lucy (Esposito) and Joseph Santagata where he lived with his seven siblings. John joined the army in 1945, serving in both Korea and Japan in the 13th Army Engineer BN as Private First Class. John met every “how are you?” with his always cheery “I’m fine, I feel good!”

John met and fell in love with his Brooklyn-born beauty and married her on April 24, 1954 in St.

John’s life revolved around his family, especially his five grandchildren. He enjoyed watching their sporting events and being a huge part of all of their lives. He truly lived for his grandchildren. John also lovingly played ‘the favorite’ game with his daughters, a tradition passed onto him after Sonia’s passing on Feb. 16, 2009.

In his younger years, John loved to roller skate with a passion, receiving many accolades for unfaltering performances. John’s shared this passion with his brother, Joey, performing in Stamford’s Palace Theater along with co-managing with Joey the Columbus Hall Roller Skating Rink. Throughout the years, at any social event, John and Sonia could always be found dancing. It didn’t matter where they were, they danced together with beauty and grace. John always found special daddy and daughters time, especially on Saturdays eating, just the three of them, at Swanky Frank’s on Connecticut Avenue.

John also loved his game of cards with friends and family and taught his grandson’s the game of poker.

John was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Sonia aka Sunny (Confortini) Santagata as well as his brother Nicholas Santagata and his sister Pauline Belsito.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Larraine Vernal of Darien, Antoinette Pagliano, Linda Santagata and Danny Santagata of Stamford and Joseph Santagata and his wife Jackie of Monroe. John also leaves behind his beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law Asteno and Carol Confortini of West Haven. And many, many cherished nieces and nephews.
