John Francis Orzechowski, Sr., of Seymour, devoted husband, loving father and longtime resident of Orange died peacefully on Thursday. He was 84.
Married for 55 years to Loretta Pond Orzechowski, he was the son of Anthony Orzechowski, a coal miner and Polish immigrant and Helen Laskowski Orzechowski.
He was born on May 5, 1927 in Larksville, Pennsylvania. He moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1941 and graduated from Bassick High School in 1945. That same year, he was drafted into the Navy as World War II was ending. He then remained in the reserves until he was called for active duty in 1950. He served in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Columbus for 9 months during the Korean Conflict and was then discharged in 1951.
He worked at the former Raybestos Manhattan Corporation in Stratford for almost 40 years. He started as a lab technician part time while he was still in High School and then worked full time while attending the University of Bridgeport, graduating cum laude in 1958 with a BS in Engineering. He had a long career as a Research Engineer at Raybestos, retiring in 1986.
He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta and is survived by his brothers Ed Oskie of Chicago, IL and Al Orzechowski of Ansonia, CT; his son, John F. Orzechowski, Jr. of Bethany and his daughter Lori Adamchek of Madison and their spouses, Kathy and Stan; his three grandsons, David Orzechowski and his wife Debbie of Prospect, Kevin Orzechowski of New York, NY, and Bryan Orzechowski of New Haven, CT; and two great granddaughters. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss him dearly.
