John L. Evanich, age 89, of Woodbridge and formerly of Milford and Derby, beloved husband to Teresa Malagisi Evanich, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Griffin Hospital. Born in Springfield IL on August 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Kuklinca Evanich. John served with pride and honor in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was the Human Resources Manager of Compensation for Sikorsky Aircraft, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sikorsky Federal Credit Union.
He was active in local politics during his time in Milford, and coached several Junior Major League teams during his sons’ baseball days. He was a doting husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Teresa of 67 years, he is survived by his daughter Peggy Bruno (John), of Milford and sons John Evanich (Barbara) of Wallingford, Joseph Evanich of Naugatuck, Charles Evanich (Leslie) of Ft. Myers, FL, and son-in-law John Dahl of West Haven. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Marilyn Ehlert (George), and brothers Joseph Evanich (Dolores) and Tom Evanich. He also leaves behind scores of loving nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Joanne Dahl, sister Ann DiCenso, and brothers George Evanich, and Ernie Evanich.
