Our beloved John Enoch Hughes returned to our Heavenly home on February 22, 2022.
On November 25, in 1990, on a beautiful winter morning, John and his identical twin brother, Kerry, entered mortality. They were such a blessing to our family!
Although just 31 years old at the time of his passing, John lived a full life! He excelled at so many things. John and his twin brother, Kerry, ran track and shared either first or second place at every meet, until the district half-mile, where they both took first place. In ninth grade, with the aid of a Weber State University professor, John conducted several experiments to determine which retail cereal contained the most iron. His hard work earned him placement in the district science fair. John played the tuba for two years and really enjoyed it. He played football his sophomore, junior, and senior years and was mentioned in the newspaper several times throughout his football career. Exceptionally gifted with mathematical talent, which would serve him well in his employment responsibilities as a scaffold builder. John was an avid reader and an excellent artist. In addition, he excelled in all of the disciplines he studied and his efforts earned him great grades. In his senior year, he was chosen King of the Senior Prom, and he proudly displayed his “burger king” crown on his dresser top. John enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities, each bringing excitement and happiness to John’s life. He earned Eagle Scout and always strived to live the Scout Law.
John worked as a master scaffold builder and was adept at many things. John’s greatest achievement is the blessing of his daughter, Kalai, in 2016. He was and still is his daughter’s hero. What Kalai may not know yet, is she is her daddy’s hero. When the battery of her big pink Barbie camper her dad bought her lost it’s charge, you would see him walking behind her, pushing her home, regardless of the mile or two they may still be away. John spared no expense for the light of his life. She motivated and inspired him daily. In return he showered her with the love that only a devoted father could render.
When Kalai’s mother told her that her daddy had gone to heaven, she assured her that he would be her own personal guardian angel, to watch over her each and every day. There is no doubt in our mind, that John, her dad, is doing just that.
Strong in his knowledge that our Redeemer lives, John frequently read the scriptures. John lived his life treating others as he would like to be treated. He loved so much and forgave so easily. He empathized with others and truly followed our Savior’s path.
John is survived by his daughter, Kalai, his mother Debra Ann South, his father William Hughes, his brothers and sisters: William R Hughes (Daina); Traelle Gailey (Joshua), Debra L Hughes (Tony), Jerome Hughes (Nicole), Sean Hughes, Thomas Hughes (Ashley), and twin brother, Kerry Hughes. He is an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandmother Genevieve South, and aunts and uncles, including two great aunts and one great uncle.
Loved by every member of his family, John, appreciated the plan of happiness. John is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Duane South, grandma and grandpa Hughes, oldest brother, Robert Hughes, oldest sister Danielle Hughes-Gould and her husband Timothy, their sons Tynan and Timothy Jr.; his brother Seven Hughes, his nephew Miloh, his uncle Russell South, and Nate Fowers.
Although John and his family have endured many losses, John’s faith in God never wavered.
