John Edwin Murphy, age 90, of Trumbull, CT, passed away on March 23, 2022, surrounded by his family who loved and cherished him.

John was born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Edwin and Theresa (Tyrrell) Murphy. He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served his country stateside and in Korea. “Popo,” as he was known by his family, was a man of great faith, character, integrity, and strength. He was kind, compassionate, loving and always giving of himself to his family, his friends and his community.

After serving as an officer in the Marine Corps, and while a student at St. John’s University School of Law, he married the love of his life, Patricia Monaghan Murphy in August, 1957. The two were at each other’s side from that day forward, enjoying every second together.

John loved his career as a trial attorney at the New York law firm of Cullen and Dykman, where he was a Managing Partner. He volunteered his time and was involved in a leadership role in many professional and civic organizations, including being the President of the Brooklyn Bar Association.

His passions, which were many, included playing golf and cards, watching movies, listening to music and books, traveling, cooking, telling jokes and rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Mets. An Irish gentleman, Popo was always  surrounded by family and friends who loved and respected him dearly. He was the beloved patriarch of the family and will be tremendously missed by all.

John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Monaghan Murphy; his children, Patricia Murphy and her husband, John Kennelly, of New Jersey, Kevin Murphy and his wife, Kathleen, of Vermont, Kathleen Murphy Heeks and her husband, Bob Heeks, of Connecticut, John Murphy and his wife, Susan, of Florida; his grandchildren, Caitlin (nee Murphy-Kennelly) and her husband, Peter Wells, Tricia Murphy-Kennelly and fiancé, Jesse Kass, John Murphy-Kennelly and his fiancé, Jacquelyn Koch,  Liam Heeks and his partner, David Meehan, Meaghan Heeks, Patrick Heeks, Rev. Fr. Robert Murphy, Brian Murphy, Kyle Murphy, and Michael Murphy; and his great-grandchildren, Catherine Wells and Jack Wells.  He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Murphy, and grandson, Michael Heeks.
