John Edwin McCormac II passed away on July 13, 2022, in Wheat Ridge, CO. He was 79 years old. Preceded in death by his parents John and Doris McCormac, brother Robert McCormac of Conifer, Colorado, and sister Carol Harrison of Warrenton, Missouri.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, John served in the Marine Corps as an infantryman from 1961-1965. He was a proud Veteran and maintained the friendships with his fellow Marines throughout his lifetime. His unit would reunite annually.
A longtime Broomfield resident where he raised his family, John made his career in the homebuilding industry. He started out as a framing contractor and became a well-known land developer and builder around the north metro Denver area. In 1982, started Merit Homes which built and sold new homes, townhomes, office warehouses and small retail developments. He retired in 2007.
He loved to golf and fish, and spent many days floating the North Platte River in and around Saratoga, Wyoming. He was an avid traveler; discovering a love of the Bahamas with his nephew Tim, John enjoyed an occasional cigar with a glass of nice wine.
John was a faithful member of St. James Episcopal Church in Wheat Ridge.
He is survived by his son, Nick McCormac (Erica), his daughter Ann McCormac (Lawrence Pederson); his grandchildren Ellen, Cole, Lyda, Shea, Olivia and Liam; his sister Judy Burkhart (Gary) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Lynell Harkins, of Lakewood, CO.
