John “Shane” Edward Sykes was born August 12, 1945 in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late Thomas Lawson Sykes and Gurnice Jackson Sykes.

He was reared in a Christian and loving family. On September 6, 2017, our Heavenly Father sent the Angel of Everlasting life to U.S.A. Decatur Rehabilitation, Decatur, Alabama. John “Shane” accepted Christ at an early age. He was a 1963 graduate of Tennessee Valley High School in Hillsboro, AL. He was employed at Prestolite and 3M Company until locating to Atlanta, Georgia.  He later relocated to Decatur, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Gurnice Sykes and sister, Vergie Jean Sykes Bell.

John’s legacy and memories will forever be embedded in the hearts of his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Byron “Kenneth” Sykes, Gerry Sykes of Hillsboro, AL and Eric Tapscott of Decatur; five grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Ann (Johnny) Young, Jr. of Hillsboro, AL; two brothers, Freddie (Betty) Sykes and Tommy Sykes, Jr. both of Decatur; one aunt, Mary Jo Garth of Ambler, GA; a special friend Burl Watkins of Decatur; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
