With a heavy heart we mourn the loss of John Edward (Eddie) Starkey. John passed away on March 19, 2023, at BSA Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
He was born to Robert Joe and Cleo Davis Starkey on January 27, 1947, in Clovis, New Mexico. He was the second oldest of their four children. He was also raised with some of his treasured cousins.
He attended school in Clovis and graduated from Clovis High School in 1965. John married Vicie Rasco in 1972 and raised two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa, that he adored in Clovis.
After graduation, he joined the Navy and served in Japan. He used his GI bill to complete vocational training in carpentry, masonry, and business.
John worked for the civil service at Cannon Air Force Base commissary for 39 years. He greatly enjoyed the diversity of people his job brought into his life. Outside of work, he enjoyed construction and farming projects with his girls.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joe and Cleo Starkey of Clovis; older brother, Robert Don (Janie) Starkey of Grapevine, TX; and his two younger sisters Nina Kay (Freddie) Allen of Clovis, and Eula Jean Starkey (Jeanie) of Clovis.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Vicie Rasco Starkey; two daughters, Jenifer Starkey of Clovis, and Melissa Starkey Beauprez of Clovis; and numerous granddogs. He also shared his life with Sandy Williams of Clovis, Bill Starkey of Sweetwater, TX, Elaine Starkey of Trent, TX, and Joe Starkey of Abilene, TX, as well as nephew Robert Edward “Bobby Ed” (Missy) Starkey of Broken Arrow, OK, and a niece Kathy (Craig) Lester of Centralia, WA. He also love all of the Starkey relatives that he spent time with.
The family has great appreciation for John’s caregivers: Dr. Sahay, Interim Healthcare, and the BSA ICU Staff.
