John Edward Smith, born on the 22’nd day of February in 1954 in Columbus, Mississippi, departed from us on the 25’Th day of March 2010.
John left behind his wife Bobbie Smith of Alamogordo; six sons, Jamar Smith of Sacramento, CA, John (Jr) Smith, James Smith, Jason Smith, Joseph Smith and J’on (Sean) Smith, all of Hooper, CA; two daughters, Jasmine Smith of Hooper, CA and Shayla Smith of Lexington, KY; one stepson, Robert Andrews of Alamogordo; twelve grandchildren; three brothers, Howard Smith of Columbus, MS, Dennis Smith of Chesapeake, VA and Kenneth Smith of San Jose, CA; sister Joanne Smith of Columbus, MS, multiple nieces and nephews and lots of friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents Beatrice and John Arthur Smith; his grandparents, George and Hazel Stovall; sister, Faye Smith and daughters Lisa Smith and Sarah Smith.
John was raised in St. Louis by his maternal grandparents. John served on active duty in the USAF during the Viet Nam era and was honorably discharged in 1974.
John was a bit of an entrepreneur, establishing and running several different businesses in his life. He met his current wife, Bobbie, on July 18, 2002 and they married on July 18, 2004. John moved to New Mexico in 2006 when his brother made a permanent change of station to HAFB.
He met Jesse Bertrand in 2007 and they became business partners establishing the Arts and Entertainment Festival of Alamogordo. John had a desire to create a forum where local artists could showcase their talents.
John was a very spiritual and caring man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.
