John Edward Leake, 74 years old, our Beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa and Uncle passed away peacefully at his home in Littleton, Colorado on December 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
John had a lengthy career in Law Enforcement in both Colorado and Alaska beginning with the Commerce City Police Department as an officer; Eagle, Colorado as the Police Chief and then for the Sheriff’s office as a correctional officer before moving to Alaska to follow his dreams. John and his wife Diane moved to Seward, Alaska, where John worked at Spring Creek Correctional Center as a Sergeant and Disciplinary Board Chairman where he was highly respected for his calm, fair, judicial manner.
In addition, John was a very spiritual man who loved his family, the outdoors and nature, and had a fierce love of animal life. John had a total evolution from his days as a hunter in his younger years to only observing and occasionally photographing wildlife. He was bigger than life but his humble ways never allowed him to acknowledge that, which is what made him so special. He will be missed greatly by many.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Leake, his two children John M. Leake and Kathy Leake Dunham, his sister-in-law Helen Leake, and two nephews Mike Leake and Tom Leake. John is also survived by Diane’s children: Kelli Piz (Dan Piz), Kristin Collins Hill (Loren Hill), and Patrick Collins, Jr., as well as four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.
