Mr. John E. McLeod, 76 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

John Earl McLeod “Yogi”, age 76 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, April 23, at SECU UNC Hospice in Pittsboro NC surrounded by family and friends.

John was born November 7, 1946, to the late Francis Best. He attended Horton High in Pittsboro, NC.

John married Ethelene Goldston on November 21, 1964, and they had three children. 

John began working at Pittsboro Poultry Plant but soon realized that his true passion was driving eighteen-wheelers. He drove for various companies and retired from driving while working at Townsend Poultry Plant in Pittsboro, NC.

John was a member of St. Mark 829 Masonic Lodge and a member of Alston Chapel Church. In 2019, he received Alston Chapel’s Man of the Year award.

John loved to cook on the grill. He had his own secret BBQ sauce recipe that he finally shared with his children and grandson.

John loved music, especially the sound of the guitar. The neighbors could hear him picking that guitar as he sat in his building. For a brief time, John sang with the Traveling Sons. His favorite music to listen to is the sounds of a Quartet.

Even during his illness, John did not complain. If you asked him how he was doing, he would always say, “I feel pretty good.” He continued to keep a smile on his face.

John enjoyed life, loved his family, and loved the Lord.

He was preceded in death by sisters Superna and Gwendolyn and brother Andrew.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Ethelene McLeod, his wife of 58 years, one daughter, Tonnette Wicker (Donnie), Sanford NC, two sons Dwayne McLeod, of the Home, Thomas McLeod (Beth), Pittsboro, NC; eleven grandchildren: Douglas A. (Shara), Jasmine (Jason), Anna (Robert), Zachary (Raven), Jacob, Gabriel, Ziah “Coco”, Zavante, Zhekai, Zarah and Raymond III; four great-grandchildren: Jaxon Brooks and Sanya Brooks., Jaxon Slotman, and Jaydah Johnson; one godson: Marcel Perry Jr. and one goddaughter Turkessa Greene; sisters: Hilda Antoine (AJ), Cynthia (Cleveland), and Mary. Brothers: David (Julie), and Willie Glen; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
