John E. Marvin, 74, a life-long resident of Lafayette, passed away on March 19, 2022, at his home after a three-year battle with cancer. He was born December 29, 1947, to the late Robert and Norma Jean (Timmons) Marvin.
John attended East Tipp HS until he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 where he boarded a destroyer to Vietnam. In 1969, he accepted Sandi Alting’s marriage proposal that resulted in a union of 53 years. Until retirement, he earned his living as a welder, a trade he learned in the Navy. Surviving with his wife are three children: Jessica Murrieta and Jason Marvin, Lafayette, and Grant Marvin, Crossville, TN, and three grandchildren: Alex and Viviana Murrieta, Lafayette and Leelu Marvin, Crossville, TN. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and fishing with his brothers, Bob and Dave, who preceded him in death.
