John Davis Linville, 86 of North View went home to be with his Lord on Monday, September 6, 2010 surrounded by family. He was born on July 2, 1924 in Rosemont, WV and married Rose Genevieve Spatafore on January 16, 1948. They have three children, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. “Poppie,” as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years Genevieve “Genny”, three daughters and sons-in-law who were loved like sons: Debby and Ronnie Carpenter of Clarksburg, Becky and Dickie Miller of Bridgeport, and Gina and Dr. Jonathan Snyder of Yorktown, Virginia. Grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeff) Anderson, Jessica Carpenter and companion Chad Jaggie, Julie Carpenter and companion Jake Dottillis all of Clarksburg. John Paul (Miranda) Miller of Bridgeport, Christie (Ben) Roy of Clarksburg, Amy (Todd) Hinkle of Clarksburg. Ari, Adam, Rachel, and Sophia Snyder all of Yorktown, VA. Great grandchildren: Bailey Kerns, Tori Anderson, Hope Roy, and Addyson Miller. He was loved as a brother-in-law to Louise Ventura of Westland MI, Sam and Rose Spatafore of Salem MA, Jobey and Jay Spatafore of Clarksburg WV, and John Paul and Glory Spatafore of Clovis, CA. He has several nieces and nephews, and special cousin Patty Grimes of Austintown, OH. He attended Christian Assembly Church. John was a Christian by faith, and was baptized on April 17, 2005, at 80 years of age. John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy as a Gunner’s Mate and a life member of the VFW post 573 and the Senior Citizen’s Center. He enjoyed spending time with family pets Moe-Moe, Winston, Charlie, White, and Lucky. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching WVU Mountaineer football and basketball teams. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was employed for over 35 years at Hazel Atlas Glass Factory in Clarksburg where he retired in 1986.
