Our beloved father, grandfather, papa, brother, uncle, and friend, John David Bishop, 78, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at a local hospital after a brief illness.

John was born February 21, 1930 in Nampa, Idaho, the oldest of three children born to John Jacob and Ellen Edith Jackson Bishop. He attended Franklin School from first through twelfth grades, graduating from Franklin’s last high school class in 1948.

John worked in many capacities at Home Dairies for many years, then started his own company, Bishop Sand and Gravel. He later drove as a long-haul trucker for Morgan Drive Away and MarkLine Supply.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Idaho wilderness.  John belonged to United Commercial Travelers (UCT) and volunteered with special needs children.

Since retirement, John’s life has revolved around his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his good nature, sense of humor, love of story telling, and ability to converse with just about anyone.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Marjorie in 1991.  He is survived by his five children, Janelle (Tom) Owings of Glenns Ferry, Jack (Cathy) Bishop, Jody (Bob) McQuade, Julie (Ron) Johnston, and Jerry (Elli) Bishop, all of Boise.  He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Amy Kearns, Dietrich Johnson, Sara Coleman, Erin Cristy, David Bishop, Jill Davis, Josh Bishop, Shawnell and Brady Johnston, all of Boise, Rachel Morris of Lehi, Utah, Jennifer Eardley of Caldwell, Idaho, Tara Lallatin of Santarita, Guam, Tyler Bishop of Kenny Lake, Alaska, Rob McQuade, Washington, D.C., Ashley and Matt Bishop, Salt Lake City, Utah.  He also has 27 great-grandchildren.  In addition, John is survived by brother, Jim (Sally) Bishop; and sister, Jean (Don) Barkell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
