John David Baxter, 81, of Ringgold passed away Monday, October 12, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family. John was born February 21, 1934 in Ringgold, Ga to Luke C. and Molly Middleton Baxter. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Hugh Don, Edwin “Bud”, Lawrence, Lewis, and Nesbitt Baxter; sisters Louise and Grace Baxter, and Jeannie Hawes.
Mr. Baxter is survived by his wife of 50 years Jane White Baxter; daughter, Susan Baxter (BJ) Campbell, and Doris (John) Harris, Ringgold, and several nieces and nephews.
John was a graduate of Ringgold High School. After graduation he worked as a Merchant Marine and served in the U.S. Air Force. Work led him to Europe and throughout the world in the 1950’s and 1960’s where he performed radar installations. John then spent 25 years working in off shore oil. He retired in the late 80’s to the land he loved. He enjoyed mowing grass, watching and feeding the birds, and peering at White Oak Mountain. John is also preceded in death by his special dog Rascal.
