John Darrell Slogar, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, went to be with our father in heaven on Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was 85 years old.
Born October 27, 1934, in Aspen, Colorado, he was the son of the late John Louis and Margaret Slogar.
Darrell graduated from Central High School in Grand Junction, Colorado. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette (Page) Slogar shortly after their high school graduation in 1953.
He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard of Colorado having served as an Sp5E5 artillery surveyor and sharpshooter from 1953 to 1961.
Darrell was the owner of Quality Sheet Metal in Grand Junction, Colorado, until he retired in 1984. He was a sheet metal apprentice teacher at Mesa College, president of the Grand Valley Archers Club, coach of a local Old Timer’s Baseball Association Team, member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #9, and an officer of the Clifton Water Board.
Darrell was an avid big game hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and wilderness. He literally “grew up in the mountains.” From the age of 10, he spent every summer in the mountains of Colorado watching over the camp while his father worked to help build reservoirs and roads in the high country. He also loved to ski at Powderhorn Ski Resort with his family and ride his horses in the mountains.
He was friendly, funny, outgoing, hard-working, and dedicated to his family and friends. He could quickly and easily get a conversation going with anyone and very much enjoyed sharing hunting and fishing stories with everyone he met.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jeanette, Grand Junction, CO; daughter, Cherie (Clifton) Bardsley, Dacono, CO; son, Michael (Linda) Slogar, Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Jacqueline Taylor, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mary Ann (Willard) Record, Thornton, CO; grandsons, Justin (Selena) Slogar, Irvine, CA, Jared (Jillene) Reeg, Highlands Ranch, CO, Kierre Reeg, Scottsdale, AZ, Kendrick Reeg, Colorado Springs, CO, David (Jeanine) Bardsley, Scottsdale, AZ, Dale (Pam) Bardsley, Melbourne, FL; granddaughter, Jacynda (Dan) Smith, Bellevue, IA; great-grandsons, Alec Slogar, Jaxon Reeg, Jacek Reeg, Jaedrec Reeg, and Taegin Smith, and great-granddaughters, Elizabeth (Stewart) Grimshaw, Rachel Bardsley, and Ariya Smith.
