Deacon John D. Miller was born September 29, 1928 to the late Arnett & Josephine (Sims) Miller.  He departed this life on August 31, 2019 at Washington County Nursing Home in Chatom, AL.

Deacon Miller (affectionately known as “Honey”) united with St. Paul Methodist Church at an early age.  He later joined Pineville Missionary Baptist Church, where he became a deacon and faithful member, until his health declined.

He united in holy matrimony with Annie Ruth Kirksey on September 27, 1947.  To this union, five children were born.  He was a truck driver for many years.  Later, he was employed by Penrod Oil Company as a member of Drilling Crew #54.  After retirement from Penrod, he became an independent logger.  He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt as well.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years; his youngest son, David; two sisters, Rosetta Anderson and Estella Brown; a grand son-in-law, John Davis; and two great grandchildren, Quinton and Jai Watters.

Left to cherish his memories are four children, Lavon Fail of Huntsville, AL; Alice (David) Lewis of Melvin, AL; John (Anita) Miller of Melvin, AL; Linda Williams of Huntsville, AL; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Miller.  Also, to treasure his memories are 14 grandchildren, Erik Fail; Sheneka Jones; Stephanie (Matthew) Trapp; Tracie Hicks; Courtney (Ricky) Banks; Brad (Stephanie) Lewis; Ira (Jennifer) Fail; Leslie (Stacey) Gill; Angela (Silas) Pascley; Alicia (Chauvon) McFadden; Jason (Laneaka) Miller; Brandi Davis; Demetra (Johnnie) Williamson; Arielle (Dexter) Williamson; and 29 great grandchildren.  He also leaves, one brother, Arnett (Blondie) Miller; five sisters, Mable McGrew; Margie Porch, Gertrude Jones; Josie Rush; and Betty Price.  A special nephew, Donald (Fannie) Leverett; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Kirksey; and a host of other relatives.
