John Cooney, age 78, of Bonita Springs, FL and formerly of New Haven and Milford, beloved husband to Sally King Cooney, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at his home with his wife by his side. Born in New Haven , CT on January 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Edward Mansfield and Helen Keehan Cooney. John was a graduate of Milford HS Class of 1954 and Quinnipiac University in 1961. A gifted and talented artist, John won many awards for his art and had numerous exhibitions. He was a long-time member of the Paint and Clay club in New Haven and a founding member of the Elm City Artists. Prior to his retirement, he was a real estate broker. John and his wife, Sally lived in New Haven, Vermont, Ireland during summers and lastly Bonita Springs, FL. John’s compassion, kindness and caring nature will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Sally of 53 years, he is survived by his son John Cooney of Westport, his daughter, Jane of Charlottesville, VA and three cherished grandchildren.
