John Charles “Jack” Piano, Jr., 78, of Oglesby, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Aperion Care in Spring Valley. John was born on February 21, 1939, in Peru to John and Clara “Pat” (Wood) Piano.
John graduated from La Salle-Peru Township High School in 1957. It was during his time there that he met his future wife, Marcella Ann Rafalski. Jack and Marcy married on August 16, 1958, at Holy Family Church in Oglesby, where they were members. The high school sweethearts were married 50 years until Marcy’s death on April 13, 2009. John spent his working life in manufacturing, retiring after more than 30 years from LTV Steel in Hennepin. Never one to sit around for too long, John took a “retirement job” at IVCC in the security department where he enjoyed chatting up students and staff. Through the years he was also a board member at Holy Family Credit Union and the Oglesby Elks Club. He was a devoted family man and raised four children who survive; Susan (David) Anthony of Oglesby, Lee Ann Piano of Tinley Park, John C. (Chrisi) Piano of LaSalle, and Steven (Becky) Piano of Princeton.
John was also a wonderful grandfather to Elizabeth (John) Isaacson of Princeton, Brian (Holly Siegel) Hancock of California, Kaitlyn and Alison Anthony, both of Oglesby, Marisa and Regina Piano of La Salle, and Connor and Jack Bays of Princeton, and great-grandfather to Marcella and Hadley Isaacson of Princeton. Also, surviving is one brother Donald (Margaret) Piano of Peru, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother James Piano, and one sister Shirley Harvey.
