John Charles Benson, Sr., 79, of China Grove, loved for his easy wit and big heart went home to be with his Lord on Resurrection Sunday, April 8, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord.

Born December 20, 1932 in Rowan County, he is the son of the late Mary Sain and Barney Benson.

Educated in Rowan County schools, he studied electronics at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, where he received a degree in electronics. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War. Mr. Benson was employed by Watson Brothers for several years.

He was a long standing member of Salisbury Church of Christ. He was well loved and remembered by all he came into contact with, as he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie and Johnny Benson, Jr.; four brothers, Jack, Larry, Connie, Donnie Benson; sister Peg Hartzog; and granddaughter Kristen Small Hampton.

He is survived by his life long sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Maroline Seamon Benson; daughters, Charlene Johnson (Michael) of Reidsville, Melissa Phillips (Oscar) of Greensboro, Tamara Benson of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Tommy Thomas, Lacey Roberts, Justin Small, Logan Benson, Jonathon Benson, Sam Phillips; and three great-grandchildren. Charlie and Maroline were married along with their friends Joyce and Max Grant on January 6, 1950.
