John C. Graybeal, Sr., 92, of Hanover, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at home with family. Born on September 17, 1929 in Rising Sun, MD, he was the youngest son of the late Glenn H. and Cora (nee Wells) Graybeal. He was predeceased by his loving wives Joyce P. (nee Bloom) who died in 1979, and Elizabeth P. (nee McKinney) Graybeal who died in 2022.
John and Joyce graduated from the University of Maryland in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954. He began teaching for Carroll County Public Schools in 1955 at Manchester High School. He became Vice-Principal and then Principal of North Carroll High School. He retired as the Director of Personnel in 1977. An avid camper, he built and operated the Safari franchise campground in Williamsport, MD from 1973-1981. He began a lifelong passion for golf while serving in the Navy and played until the fall of 2021.
Surviving are children John “Jack” Jr. and wife Barbara of Woodbine, MD, Jay and wife Doris of Westminster, MD and Joel and wife Caroline of Cary, NC; sister-in-law Evelyn Graybeal; stepchildren Debbie Owen and husband Mike of FL, Denise Hoover and husband Jim, Dorinda Bartlett and husband Randy, David Plunkert and wife Joyce, all of MD; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
