John C. Sparrow, 76, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at Passavant Area Hospital.

He was born July 2, 1931, in Salem, Mo., the son of Elmer Gordon and Anna Nora Allison Sparrow. He married Eileen Devarose on January 16, 1955, in Jacksonville, and she survives.

He is also survived by four daughters, Debra (husband, Michael) Moffett of Springfield, and Ava Sparrow, Joanna Sparrow and Tina Christison, all of Jacksonville; thirteen grandchildren, Tim (wife, Megan) Smith of Alaska, Karl Smith of Springfield, Brianna Moffett of Springfield, John (wife, Sarah) Williams of Jacksonville, Jessica (husband, Jamie) Pierson of Woodson, Jamie Sparrow of Jacksonville, Bobby Davis of Jacksonville, Wendy (husband, Steven) Brown of Jacksonville, Mindy (husband, John) Thomas of Winchester, Jeremy Marquard of Jacksonville, Amanda Christison of Jacksonville, Victor Lee Davis of Jacksonville, and Chris Sparrow of Quincy; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Julius Sparrow; two great-grandsons, Trenton Jeffrey Williams and Logan Kyle Brown; five brothers, Neal (surviving wife, Virginia of Literberry), Charles, Clarence (surviving wife, Maria of Laredo, Texas), Barney and Elmer; and five sisters, Jean Brown, Mabel Sparrow, Charlotte Sparrow, Dollie Adams and Rosie Barton.

Mr. Sparrow worked twenty-eight years for Eli Bridge Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He loved coaching his children in various activities, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and rose gardening. Between his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was a very happy person.
