John C. Rooseboom passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, March 11, 2016. He was born on October 18, 1925 in Nieuw Amsterdam, Netherlands, the son of Jacobus and Grietje (Klok) Rooseboom. John was employed by Hoekstra Hardware for 41 years until his retirement. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was primary in his life. He was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church for 30 years (until their closing), where he served as both a deacon and elder.

John was an active member of Second Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. On May 4, 1951, he was married to Jennie M. Toewater until her passing on March 8, 1994. On August 25, 1995, John was married to Jane (Medema) Swanson, who survives. Also surviving are his two children: Jack Rooseboom of Plainwell and Joan (David) DeVisser of Schoolcraft; seven grandchildren: Chris (Kathy Jager) Rooseboom, Tim (Jen) Rooseboom, Jessi (Andy Kelsey) Rooseboom, Rebecca (David) Halleck, Joel (Gretchen) DeVisser, Nathan (Abby) DeVisser and Allison (Stephan) Struber; fourteen great-grandchildren; two step-children: Debbie (Stuart) Smith of Royal Oak and David (Terry) Swanson of Kalamazoo; two step-grandchildren, Eric (Michelle) Swanson and Monica Smith; five siblings in the Netherlands; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John loved to visit Sandy Pines Campground, where he enjoyed the company of his large family. He worked out at the KVCC gym regularly and enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee daily. He was passionate about traveling the world. He also took great pride in his gardening at his home. John loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed.
