John Charles Plotz, age 78, passed away surrounded by his children on February 27th following a long battle with heart disease.

He was born in Chicago on July 13, 1935. He attended Lane Tech High School and joined the Navy at age 17. He served for 4 years aboard the submarine, USS Sail Fish stationed in New London, CT. After discharge, he attended Loyola University in Chicago earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1961. While there he met his wife-to-be, Mary Josephine Humphrey and they married in 1960. He later attended the University of Chicago where he earned his Master’s Degree and became a Certified Public Accountant.

The couple have three children, Thomas, Kathryn (Kohl), both of Ottawa and Janelle (Reynolds) of LaSalle. After working in accounting for several prominent CPA firms in the Chicago area, John moved his family to Ottawa in 1973 where he eventually opened his own practice. He and his wife were divorced in 1988. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, Screen Actors’ Guild, the Elks and Rotary International and was a prior member of the Starved Rock Yacht Club. He is survived by his former wife; his son and two daughters; eight grandchildren, Michael, Ben, Jessica, Jaymie (children of Kathryn) and Brandon, Jaycie, Shaylee and Jacob (children of Janelle).

He is also survived by one brother, James of Lake Lilly, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Frank. John’s favorite song was “I Did It My Way” by Frank Sinatra. He was very much loved and will be dearly missed by his family.
