Dr. John C. Patchen, 89, of Louisa Street, Williamsport, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born February 7, 1922 in Jersey Shore, he was a son of the late John C. and Gertrude M. Hazelet Patchen, Sr.
John was a graduate of Hepburnville High School, and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia in 1951.
He was an army veteran of World War II, and served in the South Pacific Theater.
Dr. Patchen was an optometrist in Williamsport for 36 years.
John was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, playing racquetball and tennis, bowling, and golfing, and has shot several holes-in one.
John was a member of Church of the Savior, Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, the former Edith Marie Harris, four children; Bonnie (Patrick) Fierro of Rochester, NY, Linda (John) Barone of Williamsport, Jackie (James) Taylor, of Watsontown, Robert (Nancy) Patchen of Williamsport, grandchildren; Patrick Fierro, III, Adrianna Fierro, Jessica Barone, Khiara (Paul) Zenga, Chad Biichle, Nicole (Hiren) Ghala, Joshua (Alexis Fillos) Ibbs, Jillian Ibbs, Gage Patchen, Cale Patchen, as well as eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Lee Patchen, and a grandson, John Barone II.
