A truly wonderful man, John Glynn, 92, passed from this life to the next on Saturday, June 7, 2014 of natural causes.
John graduated from Hoisington High School where he ran track and was a member of a state championship relay team. After high school he attended Dodge City College, then the University of Iowa. He entered naval flight training at Corpus Christy, TX and was soon transferred to the Army Air Force (AAF) and became a flight instructor at Thunderbird Field in Glendale, Arizona, flying PT-13’s and AT-16’s. His flight group of six trained 10,000 pilots from two dozen nations and earned a Presidential Unit Citation from Franklin D Roosevelt for over a million instructional flight hours without a single mishap. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.
After the war he remained in Glendale, Arizona where he worked as a radio disc jockey becoming close friends with singer Marty Robbins.
John, or Johnny as he was often called, was the world’s greatest salesman who loved to meet and talk to people. He was a kind and caring father to his family and a devoted member of St.
John married Clara Elizabeth Riggle on June 4,1944 and they had seven children: Lieutenant Commander John C. Glynn, Jr.(Kathryn), USN (Ret.
He married Mary Mercedes Hartman Terrell on September 4, 1976 and they had a loving marriage for 38 years. He is survived by Mary and four step-children: Charlene Hartman Kaufman (James P), Boise, ID; Roger Leon Hartman (Loretta), Phoenix, AZ; Maria Hartman Karnowski, Boise, ID; Colonel Patrick Ryan Terrell, USA (BJ), Bel Air, MD; and 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
