John Burton Spadafore, 67, of Shinnston passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at his residence.
He was born May 31, 1949 in Clarksburg; son of the late Joseph and Anna Rutter Spadafore. He lived in Shinnston all of his life.
John is survived by his wife Mary Ann Fluharty Spadafore of Bridgeport; one daughter, Jaime Rose and Keith D. Dumas; two sons, Joseph S. and Jessica Spadafore all of Bridgeport, Teddy and Kelli Spadafore of Lumberport; four grandchildren, John David, Andrew, Gianna Dumas, Lauren Spadafore; one brother, Jim and Robbie Spadafore; one sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Spadafore all of Shinnston; many nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph “JoJo” Spadafore.
John was a 1967 graduate of Shinnston High School. He lettered in both football and basketball and received All County Honors in both. He was also class president and named Mr. Spartan. He received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from WVU and was a member of the first graduating class in their Physical Therapy program in May of 1972.
John owned and operated Affiliated Physical Therapy in Nutter Fort from 1986 until he retired in 2011 and was a Clinical Assistant Professor for WVU from 1972 to 2011. Before founding his own business, John was the Director of Physical Therapy at UHC from 1972 to 1985. He spent countless hours dedicated to the community on the sidelines of many local school athletic events. Athletes could always be found in his clinic receiving treatment. John enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was at his home for Sunday dinners or at the lake in NC. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
John was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where he was an Adorer at Blessed Margaret of Castello Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, Host and Cup Minister and served on Parish Council as secretary. He also delivered Meals on Wheels with his brother Joe and his three grandchildren.
