John Edward “Bud” Wallbaum, 73, of rural Jacksonville, IL died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born February 20, 1943 in rural Pleasant Plains, IL, the son of Frank and Anna Whelan Wallbaum. He married the love of his life, Linda Richards on December 3, 1966 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield and she survives. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He is also survived by his devoted daughter, Dawn Hoagland (husband, Ron) of Ashland; his beloved grandson, Ronald Edward “Hoaby” Hoagland of Ashland; a brother, James Wallbaum (wife, Liz) of Ashland; a sister, Mary Ann Edwards of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis Wallbaum in infancy.
Bud was a 1962 graduate of Pleasant Plains High School and employed for 13 years at Hubbard Milling Company in Springfield. He later farmed northeast of Jacksonville for over 40 years. He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and, as a child and young man, was a member of St. Augustine Parish in Ashland.
An avid bird watcher and true country boy, Bud enjoyed the outdoors and the many birds and animals that frequented their yard. In his spare time, he enjoyed pursuing various building projects at home and collecting Elvis memorabilia. But his greatest joy was time spent with his grandson, Hoaby.
