John “Big J” Rollins, 62, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, February 22nd at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Montgomery, AL he was the son of Mary (Pettiway) Rollins of AL and the late Bennie Rollins. John had lived in Middletown most of his life and had been employed at Connecticut Valley Hospital for over 25 years. Besides his mother, he is survived by his life partner of 27 years, Rosetta Young of Middletown; a son, Ashanti Cunningham of Middletown; two daughters, Selina S. Cherry of Meriden and Wanda Cunningham of NC; four Brothers, Bennie Rollins, Jr. of AZ, Melvin Rollins of Australia, Tommie Rollins of New Britain and Samuel Rollins of West Haven; three sisters, Mary Ellen Rollins of AL, Mamie Thomas of AL, and Minnie Rollins of Middletown; four grandchildren, Nigel Bea, Shalae Nelson, Antwan White and Ashanti Carr; a special mother-in-law, Ruby Young Shelton of Meriden and a host of nieces, nephews and aunts.
