John Arthur Brown, 64, of Grafton passed away, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Grafton City Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Shaw, WV, April 8, 1952, a son of the late Walter Arthur and Gladys Marie Watring Brown. John is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mary Brown, Grafton; they were united in marriage March 23, 1974.
John graduated from Elk Garden High School, Class of 1970. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the Pruntytown Correctional Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and took every opportunity to tell a good story about his upbringing in Shaw.
He is survived by two daughters, Anna Marie Hayes and husband Benjamin, Waverly, WV, Cindy Lee Rubenstein and husband Shawn, Grafton; two grandchildren, Elias Arthur Rubenstein and Violet Amelia-Mae Rubenstein; six sisters, Wave Marie Curry and husband Frederick, Grafton, Rose Mary Mayne and husband Joseph, Mt. Lake Park, MD, Goldie Ann Davis, Grafton, Charlotte Irene Holtschneider and husband Gary, Oakland, MD, Wanda Kisamore and husband Jesse, Hambleton, WV, Wilda Helmick, Gormania, WV, one brother, Fred Watring, Grafton, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Brown.
