John Anthony Walker was born on July 29, 1966 to Richard Walker and the late Lenora Walker at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York. His mom affectionately called him Scooby.
John attended the NYC Public School System in Co-op City’s Northeast Educational Park for most of his academics. He later followed in his parents’ footsteps and attended the historic African American preparatory school Laurinburg Institute in Laurinburg PA. John spent many summers in Washington at his aunt Lola Spraggins’ home with his siblings and cousins.
Throughout John’s lifetime he prided himself on being an athlete excelling in sports and using football to channel his energy. He played for several teams throughout his younger years. As he got older John continued playing football every Sunday down by the Eastside river rain, cold, heat, snow, it didn’t stop him. Come Saturday he was already tearing up the closet coordinating his uniform and making sure his cleats matched his socks and his jersey for the game. Anyone who knew John knew his three favorite sports teams were the NY Mets, Washington Redskins and the NY Rangers. He continued to play football well into his late 40’s. He was known as OLDTIMER.
John felt accomplished in his work..
During John’s earlier years he fathered two sons who he devoted a lifetime of love to and who served as a source of pride for him. When his first child John Anthony Walker Jr. was born, he was so elated when he came home that he scooped him up wrapped in little more than a blanket and a diaper and carried him through the neighborhood. This was the beginning of his legacy! By the time his second son Jalik Anthony Walker was born he was already a pro and did not think twice about changing his schedule around to the evening shift so that he could spend more time with the children and be home during the day to watch Jaliks’ favorite show Caillou with him.
John’s storybook romance started when he and wife Dominique Walker were very young. Their love for each other extended over 42 years. They were reunited and married on July 8, 2011.
John Anthony Walker transitioned on Sunday November 10, 2019 unexpectedly following a brief illness. He was called home to be with his mother Lenora Walker, grandmother Faye Walker, and two best friends Kelly Booker and Theodore Walters who preceded him in death waiting in Heaven.
