John A. Adams III passed away on September 1, 2016, after a six-month battle with leukemia. He was 71 years old. John was born in Washington, DC, the son of John A. Adams, Jr. and Lucille Simmons Adams. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Maggie) Adams of Sharpsburg, GA; his sister, Lucille Anne Adams and her husband John Dillon of Taos, NM; and by his brother, Tom Adams and his wife Pat of Missoula, MT. He is also survived by his son, Samuel Reese, his wife, Lynette Reese and his granddaughter, Leliana Marie Reese of Kingston, TN. John earned a BS degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT in 1967 and an MBA degree from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY in 1975.
He studied at Stonier School of Banking and Finance at Georgetown university for his Ph.D. He was also a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. After entering the military in 1968, John served 30 years in the U.S. Army and Army reserves retiring in 2005 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his military service, John served combat tours in Vietnam receiving the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medals. John also served 25 years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, retiring as a Senior Bank Examiner in 2006. During his FDIC career, Mr. Adams served as a Bank Liquidation Specialist for several failed bank receiverships in Florida and an Examiner in Charge for many open banks in South Georgia. In retirement, John enjoyed supporting and serving the The Gideons International and First Baptist Church of Newnan where he was a choir member and deacon.
