John Allan Staake, 61, of Meredosia, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1955, in Jacksonville, the son of Leland and Norma J. Werries Staake. He married Mary Lou Morthole on May 21, 1977, in Meredosia and she preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 1992. He later married Minda Cole Jacobs on June 4, 1993, in Jacksonville and she survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Norma J. Schweer of Meredosia; one son and two daughters, Brandon (Carlee) Staake, and children Claire and Benjamin of Meredosia, Nicole (Scott) Surratt, and children Emma, Elie, Alexis and Brodhi of Meredosia, and Stacey (Andrew) Mackey, and children Norah and Kayne of South Jacksonville; two brothers, Gary (Christine) Staake and Ron (Paulette) Staake, both of Meredosia; and four nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Staake; and step-father, Norman R. Schweer.

Mr. Staake was a 1973 graduate of Meredosia-Chambersburg High School. He worked for C.I.P.S. in Meredosia, retiring after 38 years. He also had a lifelong interest in farming. John was an excellent fabricator, carpenter and handyman. He was proud of the two homes he built and lived in. His hobby was being a wonderful Grandfather.
