     John Umek, 82, a resident of Bliss, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at his home in Bliss.

     John was born on November 23, 1939 in Enumclaw, Washington, the son of John J. and Helen Marie (Fornalski) Umek.  He was raised and educated in Enumclaw.

     After graduating, he served with the Army and upon receiving an honorable discharge he moved to Sun Valley, Idaho.  He worked for Sun Valley on the ski patrol in the winter and as a bellman at the Sun Valley Lodge in the summer.

     In 1972 he married Page Peterson where they resided in Ketchum.  He decided to start his own concrete business doing multi-million-dollar homes.  All of Bruce Willis’s home and the Mint.  Thirty-five years of hard work.

     In 1974 he bought a home in Bellevue where they lived for 35 years.

     In 1977 our first son – John W. was born.  In 1978 our first daughter – Danielle came along and in 1981 our third daughter – Destra was born.  All the children were ski racers where John and Page followed them in the winters to various ski races.  In the summers he coached Little League and always had winning teams.

     In 1999 he retired from construction and bought a couple of homes in Hagerman.  His last home was in Bliss.

     He was always planting a garden and he always shared with others when we had too much. He loved to fish, hunt, ski and snowmachine, but most of all he loved to sit and talk with people, he always had great stories to tell.  He loved his family, especially as it grew. 

     John is survived by: his wife – Page Umek; his children – John W. (Pam) Umek, Danielle Umek and Destra (Kelly) Wickham; and six grandchildren which he adored – Christina Robinson, Hailee Robinson, Natalie Robinson, Braydon Thompson, Kelsey Wickham and Tallulah Umek.
