John Alioysius Roberts, Jr., 81, passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona on Monday, February 17, 2020.
John was born in Cohassett, Massachusetts on July 27, 1938 and raised in Boston. He graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1956. In 1960, he graduated from Fordham University in The Bronx, New York City with a degree in marketing, then served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1965.
John was a member of Young Presidents International and World Presidents Organization, the two now-merged organizations the premier international associations of business chief executives.
He was a member of the Arizona State University Foundation, the ASU President’s Club, the ASU Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies, and he served on the advisory board of the Center for the Study of Religion & Conflict at Arizona State. He also served on the advisory board of the Cordoba Initiative, a multi-national, multi-faith organization dedicated to improving Muslim-West relations, and the East West Institute, an international non-partisan think tank focusing on international conflict resolution.
John was an avid golfer and a member of the Paradise Valley Country Club in Arizona, Farm Neck Country Club in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, and Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Westchester, New York. He was also a member of the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan. During his two decades in Arizona, John was a parishioner at St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church in Scottsdale.
He is survived by his longtime friend and companion Mary E. Holland, daughters Stephanie and Tracy, sons John III and Jeffrey, sisters Kathleen and Maureen, grandchildren Timothy, Jack, and Katherine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family and friends knew John as a true gentleman, a man who believed strongly in the resolution of conflict.
